Mila is a Bulgarian painter and iconographer, born in Sofia, who lives and works in France.
For over thirty years, she has distinguished herself in the creation of icons that adorn the iconostases of many Orthodox churches, fulfilling her vocation of sharing and communion through Beauty. Among the many admirers of her iconographic art are Pope John Paul II, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, various statesmen including Romano Prodi, as well as numerous individuals deeply attached to this sacred art of which she holds the secret.
In parallel, Mila has also discovered and affirmed herself in pictorial expression: mastering drawing, charcoal, pastel, gouache, watercolor, and oil painting—skills she first developed in Bulgaria and later in France.
Her favorite subjects revolve around urban and suburban landscapes, which she conveys with a modern, captivating, and vigorous lyricism. She allows herself to be guided by the dynamic energy of her tools, while never straying from the contemplative nature inherent in her calling. Remarkably, she manages to unite static masses and moving forms, to the point of evoking a lyricism that truly emanates from her heart.
This is also what she seeks in her portrait work: to reconcile the existential and temporal aspects of the model while capturing their very essence—their lasting presence.
